The Lena Romano Memorial Scholarship honors the life of Lena Romano Wilbanks by supporting graduating seniors of Old Forge High School as they pursue higher education. It celebrates Lena’s legacy of resilience, compassion, and her belief that every person has the potential to make a meaningful difference in the world.

Graduating seniors of Old Forge High School who plan to pursue higher education in any field of study are eligible to apply. Applicants should demonstrate academic commitment, involvement in their school or community, and the resilience to overcome challenges — values that defined Lena’s life.

Applications close each year on May 5th. All materials must be submitted by this date to be considered for the award.

The $10,000 Lena Romano Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually and disbursed as a single payment. Here’s how it works:

Disbursement: The full $10,000 is paid directly to the recipient in June.

Application Deadline: Applications close on May 5th each year.

Committee Evaluation: A dedicated committee reviews all applications and selects the recipient.

Presentation of the Award: The recipient is announced and presented with the scholarship at Old Forge High School’s Awards Night — the first time they learn they’ve been chosen.
